Wrong National Insurance Number

in Cutting tax
Having been in a new job since July 2011, I have just realised they have got one diget wrong in my National Insurance number. I am being taxed at basic rate (Tax Code BR).
Do I have to tell my employer or can I just ring the tax office and explain? I don't see the boss very often at all.
I have 2 other jobs which my tax code is split, would this third job still go through as a basic rate or split with the other two?

Id tell the employer and the tax office of the error.0

Happens all the time, as our Mickey Mouse numbering system does not appear to include a "check digit".
Are you depending on your contributions for an additional state pension?
Have you asked for a pension forecast any time recently?
Would the missing contributions effect future benefits?
[I fondly remember being told at the age of 18 that my missing "stamps" could effect my right to claim maternity benefit:eek:]

In the list at the bottom of the page you can check how other countries do the same job.0 -

Please help - I have been paying into the the wrong NI number since I started work 8 years ago. Although I have now been issued a new one (following an identity interview) I have no idea who I need to contact or what I need to do to chase up my previous contributions. HMRC are being typically unhelpful and I don't know who to turn to.0
