I work in a nursery and the gifts we get are normally smells or chocolates also home made gifts that's you see on the boards like snowman soup or the beermMAt calendars etc I personally like the homemade gifts best especially if the children have helped0

DS has 5 members of staff at his nursery. I try to spend £5 total. It is a token thank-you so I don't see the need in buying expensive presents (I am also a teacher myself)
large bar of chocolate (whatever is on special, usually galaxy, usually about £1)
then give DS a sheet of paper to draw and stick bits on to, then use this to wrap the chocolate.
Or posh biscuits in a tin from £1 shop. (chocolate wafer tubes that looked really expensive)
Or one year I managed to get some posh M&S handcream as they were on 3 for 2 and reduced so worked out at £7 for 6 (I put other in a hamper)
Mug that ds painted & I wrote their name on (Mugs were 50p each in wilkos & I borrowed ceremic paint pens from work) I put "from ds" on the bottom of the mug.
Or things to share - handwash & handcream set, box chocs/biscuits/cake HM or shop bought
I also always get DS to make a card as for me personally, that is what I cherish more than any present!0 -
how about something for them to share at the nursery?
Coffee, Tea, teaspoons, new teatowels, nice packets of biscuits, hot choc, ........
i never did xmas presents when DD1 was at nursery but i did do this when she left. I got whatever tea/coffee/biscuits etc were on special offer the week i did it.
or a mini version for each worker. Cheap mug from Wilcos (or similar), sachet of Options hot choc, sugar sachets (free from a cafe!!:rotfl:) individual biscuit like a penguin/club/kit kat, teaspoon from a set of cheap ones?????
As a teacher, i get a lot of candles, chocolates, wine, cheaper lines in the Boots 3 for 2 deal. i am grateful for all my gifts as i would never expect to get a gift for doing my job . my best ever present was half a dozen duck eggs from a boy in my class whose pet ducks had laid them!0 -
aw duck eggs how cute lol
What about speaking to other mums/dads and seeing about doing a collection? At our nursery we collect £2-3 per child and collect together to give bigger gifts.
Theres around 70 kids (including morning/afternoon kids) so £3 each gives 5 teachers £42 each!! We usually present them a gift at xmas party and give flowers/chocs and gift vouchers.
Good for the teachers as they can buy what they like, and good for you as you spend £3 between 5 people, results all round lol :j
DD1s school teacher will get a pot of gold this year lol, but i'll put in a wee baileys or something to make it worth about 4 quid.
Hope this helps

Last Xmas, DS had only just started nursery and he only really knew his key worker, so I bought her one of those mugs with the hot chocolate etc in it. Cost me £5!!!!!!
This year, I'm going to make them all mug sets as I found some mugs in a local shop. They look like terracotta plant pots and were 30p each, so I'm going for a gardening theme. I am going to knit mug hug (free, as I have the wool) with a crochet flower on it (again, free), a wooden stirer (free from work), some hot chocolate, marshmallows, a biscuit.
Each one is going to cost about £1 and there are about 5-6 of them in his room.0 -
A bottle of wine always goes down well! Rose normally, as some people don't like red or white!0

I agree, something small & preferably something homemade is realy appreciated. Otherwise but something bigger for the whole team: we share ours out rather than splitting them up, maybe keeping one ot two back for staff meetings etc as there's never much time to eat anything other than a quick bit of lunch during the working day & you have to be careful about sending out cinfusing messages about healthy eating if the children see you munching chocolates etc!0
