To my mind, YouGov is the best survey company, it's slow, but they ALWAYS mean it when they say they have a survey for you, you NEVER get turned down after a few questions.

If you have a skill to sell, that is your commodity.
1. If you are a good typist or writer, you can do work from home assuming you already have the necessary equipment.
2. If you are artistic you can make things very cheaply and sell them. You may need to make an initial investment or you can ask friends and family for bits and pieces they don't need. A very kind neighbour of mine gave me a huge bag of wool and I started knitting hats and scarves for my family. If you're a good knitter you could set up a stall at a boot sale and sell your wares.
3. If you are artistic you can sketch people and sell them an unframed pencil portrait. Pencils can be picked up very cheaply and sketch pads do not cost much if you get the cheap ones to practice on. Maybe someone has some odd bits of typing paper they can let you have (to practice on).
4. Sell scrap. You could collect old cans and sell them to a scrap dealer. You could ask around the neighbourhood and do a weekly collection and then take them to the dealer. You could label bin bags with your name on and ask people to chuck their CLEAN food and drink cans in for you to collect.0 -
Have you offered your services for cleaning, ironing, babysitting, dog walking, dog sitting, plant sitting, car washing/valetting or anything else you can do?trying, can't get one
Those aren't the most exciting jobs in the world, but they can be done by pretty much anyone healthy/mobile and don't require special skills.
There are always working people that need things doing.
Do you have skills you can offer to that list - like sewing/alterations.
I find it hard to believe that nobody wants anything doing at all.
We're a working couple and always looking for help and ironically find it difficult to find anyone to do some work (willing to pay good money too).
There are lots of working people that need help.
What about your local old people's sheltered flats?
There are probably lots of elderly people in there who could do with someone younger to take their washing to the laundry room and put it in the washer, then the dryer, then take it upstairs.
If there's 40 or 50 flats in one block you could do quite a lot of business doing shopping, washing, cleaning, ironing etc.
My 84 year old MIL struggles to walk down to the laundry room, because she has to put it in the washer once, then in the dryer then pick it up. That's min 3 trips assuming there are free machines available.
You can make quite a decent living doing stuff for old people. I'm not suggesting you rip them off but old people have a need. I expect to pay between £10 and £12.50 for unskilled work which is way above minimum wage.
I'd suggest £10 is probably more standard (we pay our cleaners £12.50 but that includes materials).
If you can invest in a proper ironing press then you can make good money from ironing once you get the hang of using it.
Got any friends/neighb ours you could start off with?0 -

Can't remember if it was on this board or not but in a previous thread it was suggested that scrap dealers are only interested in cans by the ton. That's an awful lot of cans.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

Good point.
Dog walking could be a good one. I am a volunteer dog walker but there is a demand for reliable people to take dogs out, especially for elderly owners. If you are honest and reliable, and turn up when you say you will, you can build up a round in quite a short time. I never let the dogs of the lead and only take one owner's dogs at a time. That way it does not get too much hassle.0 -
How about house sitting? You get money for being in other peoples houses and looking after them while they are away.0

There's nothing such as a free lunch. Eventually, you have to sell something - goods, services, your time etc.0
