Rapidly losing aspiration

I am quite happy with allowing market forces to dictate the haves and have nots in our society, with of course a little protection for true weaker members of society.
But how many people in the UK are living in better homes than those that have decent paid jobs. How many immigrants who have not been here more than 5 minutes, how many playing the system welfare scroungers, how many of those heavily in debt, personal and mortgage are being kept in property that should have been repossessed long ago.

I have friends who are highly skilled in many fields, a few who went to uni, some have highly responsible jobs where few could handle the pressure that they do. Apart from a few that are lucky enough to have extremley wealthy parents, none of us are able to buy property. In my circle it is a continious circle of constantly moving on to yet another rented place, friends who out of the blue will get their 2 months notice, usually at a time when they are under pressure at work.

I am naturally a slghtly center left thinker, I think that at times in our history immigration has made us a better country. I think the principle of a welfare state is a brilliant one if it is used correctly, BUT!!!

There is so many of us now who are losing what has probably made tis country what it is today, aspiration through hard work and putting something into our society.
It seems like millions of illegals, ponces and BTL spivs are taking the homes we dream of.

Something had better change soon, if the very cream of our society cannot dream of owning less than average homes then we are lost.

Well it's different all over the place. Are you in London? I'm not and all my skilled friends have houses. I don't know anyone over 30 who rents.

Let me guess, you're early twenties and still tied tightly to mum's apron strings. For some reason you think you're owed a living, plenty of bling and sports car draped with half naked women just like you see on MTV.

Real world is that way ---->

Most of Britain's history (and I mean the vast majority of it) has been riven by class divide and unearned privilege. The NHS is only comparatively recent. Within living memory the vast majority of people toiled without end in unskilled jobs, and were lucky if they got to live to see an impoverished retirement.

I agree that its a shame we seem to be heading backwards but, and this is the pertinent bit as I see it, David Cameron et al dont care if people are toiling and miserable or toiling and happy. He also doesnt care whether they are brown, white or whatever, or if they speak English or not. Not really.

As far as the government is concerned the point of the workers is to support neo-liberal capitalism.

He doesnt care about any of this because he is a neo-liberal free market capitalist, just like Brown and Blair were. The most effective form of protest you have is to withdraw your labour.

To say DC doens't care is just stupid. you don't know him nor do I so we don't know much about what he really cares about.

Did gordon brown care when he plundered our private sector pensions? No.

Policiticians care about getting re elected, and the labor party cares about trying to blame the Con./Dems for the mess that they left behind.

If income differentials continue to widen, we may return to the days when only the rich own property. The era of mass property ownership will just be written off as a brief aberration.

You get my sympathy, but you'll find quite a few here who are enjoying seeing people in your predicament. No doubt they'll tell you that you should have not delayed buying a property (or two), or that you must be wasting your money instead of saving for a deposit.

I know a few. Over the years they've been careful with their money. Saved hard and spent wisely.
