Dryer Balls - (merged with Poundland offer)

 Anyone used the drying balls that you put in the tumble dryer? On the instructions it says to use on your normal setting. But then claims to reduce drying time by upto25%. If this is so surely instead of putting on 1hr drying time you should decrease it to 45mins. Has anyone any idea how much electricity cost to run a tumble dryer for an hour? As they cost roughly £10 - wondered how long it will take to cover the purchase cost.

  • I use them all the time - I've never timed it but I'm sure it has speeded up the drying time

I also find they speed up the drying time.

  • I found an article which said:

"Cost of running a tumble dryer varies between 3 to 5 kWh or around 12 p on night-rate electricity".

The article was from the Market Transfer Programme - supporting UK government policy on sustainable products. Available at:

They quoted Intertek Research & Performance Testing for the source of this figure.

By the way UCE - university of central england - trailed a machine that washed clothing without using water. Though the product worked - it was rejected because consumers did not 'believe' in it!

Someone has mentioned on another thread that these dryer balls are selling at Poundland, at that cost they are worth a try, I'm off to see if I can get some today.

These are definitely worth it - bought some at poundland and they have definitely made a difference in the amount of time my clothes take to dry! Apparently tennis balls have the same effect

  • i have the jml dryer balls, and they deff. do make a difference. i have kind of needed a new dryer for a while(but it was still working just taking longer), it was taking about 3 hours to dry a load of clothes, with the balls i have cut out an hour of that. now im hunting for a new dryer, so i expect them to work even better with a properly efficient dryer.
