Just in case there does turn out to be a financial link, he can apply to be disassociated with her: the links for the forms for the 3 credit agencies are all on this page (towards the bottom) http://www.thecreditagency.co.uk/credit-report/check-my/financial-disassociation.htmlGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

No joint account for bills? No shared utility accounts? No forging of signature by SiL? It does not take much to create an association.Katsu,
Thank you so much for that, I am just so angry and upset. Mr juicy has never had any products with her, only that they shared an address. I will get him to get his credit reports and see what can be done.

I can't say anything about forging of signature but no. The home they shared was husband's mother's home so all bills other than individual credit cards/ mobile phones were in her name not my OH or SIL's. Oh paid MIL 'digs'. He moved out over 5 years ago and we have lived at 2 different addresses in this time but this last 6 months is the first we have had any problems.0 -
I should just add that any "association" used for tracing purposes isn't necessarily a formal financial association that would appear on his/her credit reports as one.
i.e. previous joint account/finance.
The software packages/services used by DCAs link together related data/people to provide possible addresses without always needing the formal link on credit reports, using a variety of other data sources, so it's not a 100% "given" that a formal link that would do you harm exists on CRA files.
Still worth checking his reports to make sure though.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi again, we have checked his Experian report so far and she is not named as connected to him, however the address is.
He is going to send a dissocation form to each of the three agencies to see if that helps, so thanks for that link rising from the ashes.
Apparently her mother is going to pay it for her, baring in mind she is a 28 year old waster, so hopefully that will be the end of it.0 -
hi
i sometime trace people and it is awfully easy to find someone assocated with the person I want at the address they lived at years ago, and then find the assocated person more recently.
Try plugging OH's name into www.pipl.com and see what I mean. Almost certainly, they have just used electoral rolls to locate OH, knowing her lived with her previously. Frightening you was designed to get OH to put pressure on her to pay up. And it worked.
They will have mad e a handsome profit from it (probably bought the debt for peanuts and now MIL is coughing up the full debt?).
At the very least suggest she comes on here and checks out statute barred debt (given the time spans you mention this is possible) and full and final offers. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
