Can I stop a teddy bear smelling of smoke?

Options
Whilst visiting my parents house at Christmas I collected all the teddy bears I collected when I was a teenager and bought them home, some to keep (have a little Stieff (a new one)) and some to sell.

Trouble is until a year ago my dad smoked cigars and smoked in the house and the teddies were on a shelf in my bedroom and have been in the wardrobe for the last 5 years - so they now smell of smoke.

Does anyone have any magical tips for getting rid of the smell of smoke from a teddy bear?

Thanks in advance

My first instinct would be to hang them up on the washing line for a couple of days when it's dry and windy - maybe make each one a kind of sling from some string? Just get plenty of air to them and see if it helps - always does on clothes when they come back from the pub (or bought off Ebay!)

Time, and as much fresh air as you can arrange. Can the teds go in a garage or outhouse for a few weeks, preferably a draughty one!

you could try covering them/rubbing in bicarb of soda then leaving it on for a good few hours in a bag. vaccuum gently and repeat if neccessary.
    the bicarb absorbs smells

Wrap them loosely in newspaper which will absorb the smell of smoke and renew the paper every day for a week or so till the smell has gone. This does work as I have done it myself

Could any of the teddies go in the washing machine on delicates? Perhaps not the Stieff one but the others may have washing instructions?
  • I'd suggest as much air as possible - hanging it out on a washing line.
