Aww, that's so typical of you Sammy (just been reading your other thread). You have a heart of gold, bless you.

As for suggestions, is there a branch of a restaurant chain e.g. Harvester or Beefeater in their area? If so you could send them a gift token for a meal out, or something towards one, depending on your budget.

Maybe they would like one of those photo frames with lots of different display "holes" in it. You could put a piccie of their wedding, one of your family (with a separate one of your son), and any other siblings you have, in some of the spaces, and leave the rest for them to fill over the years. Depending on size, it shouldn't cost too much to send by parcel post.

Or do you have any siblings who live near to them, so that they could buy or organize something on behalf of all of you?
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I really like Bogof_babe's suggestion of a photo frame.

Alternatively, if they have a garden/patio, how about a rose bush? I know there are roses name Golden Wedding, Wedding Day, etc so I had a look to see if there was something suitable for you.

I couldn't find anything with specific "anniversary" or "1st anniversary" name, but did come across these ones...

    Especially for you - http://www.apuldramroses.co.uk/ESPECIALLY+FOR+YOU+Fryworthy-rose.htm
    Special Occasion - http://www.apuldramroses.co.uk/SPECIAL+OCCASION-rose.htm

Except for the top one in the list (which is quite expensive) the others are fairly reasonably priced. I had a look at the delivery charges and it's £5 or £5.50 (can't remember which).

They do gift packs too which are £25 and contain 2 roses, food, wrapping and this price also includes delivery. However, I don't know how much your budget is.

I guess that if you've got a garden centre near you, you could pop down there and see what they've got (maybe they could order one in specially) but then you'd have the problem of posting it...

Sorry, I don't think I've actually been that helpful!

I think 1st anniversary is paper so a gift token as suggested by Bogof_Babe or tickets for the cinema or local theatre or maybe train tickets for them to have a day out at the seaside or maybe an interesting city would seem appropriate as well as being highly postable.

Was going to say that first anniversary is 'paper'; my husband and I bought ourselves a lovely print from where we went on our first holiday ... did they go on honeymoon, is this something you could do?
    That's Numberwang!
