Benefits & mortgage

I'm just starting the ball rolling to buy a house and get out of rented. So far when talking to lenders / brokers etc I have used my income and that should be sufficient financially.
Following a massive family trauma my wife gets DLA and IB and will not work for the rest of her life. Whilst I am not planning to offer these as income for the mortgage can I use them in the overall financial sums to work out residue / cash spare after the mortgage is paid.
Thanks
