While CGI animation largely aims to bring us closer and closer to photorealism, from time to time it's nice to see a film that flaunts its animated roots. A Scanner Darkly, the latest film to be adapted from a story by acclaimed sci-fi writer Philip K !!!!!!, makes use of rotoscoping, an animation technique where film footage is digitally traced over, frame by frame. The film itself stars Keanu Reeves as an undercover police officer who finds himself coming under increasing stress due to his double life and addiction to Substance D, a powerful psychotropic drug.
A Scanner Darkly will be available on DVD from 22 January, RRP £17.99. Thanks to Warner Home Video and Orion Publishing we have a portable DVD player, a copy of the DVD and a copy of the original novel to give away! Four runners-up will also receive copies of the book and DVD. To enter, just answer this simple question:
Question - Which of these Philip K !!!!!! stories has never been adapted into a film?
Answer - Second Variety
Good Luck!
