Big Lcd Hunt

Options
I would like to buy a big LCD TV for my first new home around 46”. I am quite particular and like to have things with top spec. The Sony KDL52X2000 looks perfect but is quite on the pricey side £3199 ish.

Can any one recommend a good large LCD TV preferably with around 1920 x 1080 pixels, HD, Integrated Freeview, and a long shot would include integrated PVR.

I am realising I have a budget and need to prioritise the little cash I have so I am calling on fellow Money Savers to help me find a reasonably priced BIG LCD.

I can highly recommend both the 'W Series' and 'X Series' Sony Bravia. I have the 40" W (What HiFi? product of the year 2006) and my friend has the 46" X. Stunning quality and the full HD 1920 x 1080 pixels. A little tip for you - find it from a cheap 'bricks and mortar store' e.g. https://www.empiredirect.com and then get John Lewis to do a price match. This way you can take advantage of John Lewis' free 5 year guarantee (usually costs 300 to 500 quid with other stores that only provide standard one year) and get the benefit of buying at the cheaper price. That's what I did.

I know Sharp have a new range out with 1920 x 1080 but I know nothing about it.
It's not the taking part but the winning that counts.
  • Thanks loads dbonbon. I really like the look of the 'W Series' and 'X Series' Sony Bravia. I had no idea about the John Lewis' free 5 year guarantee so I will buy it from them and get them to price match

I have been avidly searching the net since and found the following 2 LCDs which have had really good reviews:

    Philips 42PF9831
    Sony KDL52X2000

Can anyone else recommend any other top performing alternatives? I am only interested in LCD, not Plasma. Preferably 46"> However if the TV and price is too good to ignore will go for a 42"er.

I am also getting the Bose 48 Lifestyle system to hook up to it.

Thanks everyone for all your help!!

If you're spending that much on a TV, I'd splash out on a humax and not worry about having a built in tuner.
