I've done really well with my shopping budget

Options
Hi all

Since being on this site and reading everyones posts and learning so much about budgets and thinking about what I buy and making home cooked meals. I've got my weekly shop down from over £80 a week to £65 this week, which is really good for me and I'm hoping to improve on this as I go along.

Just to say thanks to all the folks who give good advice and receipes.

    well done:T :T
I too have taken inspiration from everyone on here and last week I shaved £17 off my £80 food budget and hoping for more this week!!
I have done it through menu planning and keeping an eye on what is in my freezer and cupboards. Oh and home bakng for the boys lunches.
I'm chuffed I managed it even having OH at home sick for last 2 weeks (he is normally away good part of the week)....so I am looking forward to getting my £80 down to £50 very soon.

    hello
I just wanted to praise the board too.I have cut my monthly supermarket from £750 to £450 and still trying to reduce to £400 next month. The recipies here are totally fab but what has really made the difference for me is meal planning. I feel so clever and my OH is really impressed !!!
  • I too used to spend between £80-£100 per week but since finding this board and planning my menus and freezing stuff instead of throwing it i have got my shopping bill down to £63a week for the last 2 weeks I'm hoping to start baking more when my youngest starts pre nursery a cpl of mornings a week and my eldest starts school but atm im chuffed to bits with myself.
    Hurray for MSE

i used to spend £110 a week 2 years ago.

I started off slow and got it down to £80, then down to £55 but this past week has been my best effort , I spent £41.50 for a weeks shop !!!

I managed this by changing my shopping from Tescos to Lidls .
    Kindness costs nothing :)

Why not include the kids in the baking, my 2 love it! Am guessing mine are similar ages as DD1 will start school in Sept and DD2 will start in pre-school. Yes it is a bit more mess but they really love it, and are more likely to eat it if they helped make it

I don't know how you can all afford to spend £400 odd on shopping. I'm only on an income of £660 a month and I have 2 children to feed. I did my monthly shop today and spent £49 and I put a few treats in the trolley too.
