I'd go for the 2nd one (Former English teacher with a MA in it!)
Although I am old so the 1st might be some new way of doing it.
With you all the way on that. The second was my way, the first was the way I was told it should be done in future.
This is not a UK based company though so I think possibly there is a different convention elsewhere.

Neither. I would say it should be...

She said "May I help you?"

No no no, there always needs to be punctuation before speech - commas, not colons.

Seems to be very picky I don't think I have ever been picked up on anything that trivial. Who's the company?

Before I get into a dispute with a proofreader I want to know which of these is grammatically correct.
She said: "May I help you?" or
She said, "May I help you?"

    Opinions please.

I'd say the second but I am a little bemused as to why the proof reader is that bothered. It really doesn't change the meaning of what you are saying. Which MS company is it with?

I was paid for work done in November just before Christmas (and nearly fell off my chair in surprise tbh)

It really is pedantic isn't it.
I've just fired off an email pointing out that I am correct.
    Reply awaited.
I'll kick off if it isn't an unreserved apology and an acknowledgement of my brilliance :rotfl:

Actually I'm about ready to kick off at anything or anyone today.
Thats what an afternoon a Sunday at the Trafford centre does to me.
I feel like cr*p today and have been frantically ringing round rescheduling my jobs for later in the week.
Oh well at least I can sit and watch Arsenal stuff Leeds tonight on free ESPN.
    boo hoo poor me...
  • If its Bare, I once had a report returned to me a couple of weeks after I had done it, as the client had requested some additional information. I was quite amazed when I read the report because all my comments had been completely changed. It did not read the way an English person would write, instead it read as though it had been badly translated from German! :rotfl:

I was quite cross as I only got a 6 for this report. After reading it I could see that the proof reader had spent ages changing it so I guess this is why! :rotfl:
  • Cheers for the heads up on the fleece job, i have 2, heading out to do mine in a bit.
