    As others have said it depends on the deal you get. I was lucky and remortgaged several years ago onto a HSBC lifetime tracker at 0.69% above base rate and with the base rate being so low at present it has allowed me make regular overpayments and a serious dent in what was a very large mortgage. The good thing is that there is no tie in or charges for overpayment so if I find a better rate elsewhere I am free to move. I doubt I will find a better offer for a long time.
