In-law's Silver Wedding - Present Advice Needed Urgently!!!

Hi all-

My foolish OH has 'forgotten' to organise a wedding anniversary present for his parents. It's a biggie - 25 years!

I realise that silver is the traditional gift, but wondered if anyone had any genious ideas for something original? Particularly something a bit special. Budget is not big at all, so was thinking of making a little 'pot of silver' I found on one of the other forums (silver choc coins, with lottery ticket in nice silver pot). :money:

Any other ideas? Perhaps we could get them a few bits rather than one flashy present?

THANKS!

P.s. It's on Tuesday!!!!!!

We got my parents a Silver photo framed photo of all of us for their silver wedding. They loved it!
We got it off ebay, if you're interested in that idea.

Trees.plants or bushes for the garden or in a planter are always a nice gift and there are loats of flowers with the word silver or the month of the anniversary in even a nice silver planter or pot would be nice....go and have a look in the garden centre ...roses are a good bet as there are loads that are named ...or even there are kits that you can name your own one...

  • I bought one of these personalised photoframes for my father for Father's Day - good communication with a big range in frames. I left mine last minute and they did a rush order for me no problems (and no extra charge except for quicker postage.) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engraved-aluminium-photo-frame-various-finishes-/230663464350?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET&var=&hash=item7b6861d026#ht_1400wt_905

If you want to do the lots of small things I like the idea above of a plant in a planter - you could get a small rose tree in a silver pot, or an orchid perhaps.

I'd also bag myself some 25 year silver confetti whilst you were out shopping to put in the card.

If you're going round you could take a bottle of something sparkly - and I have seen in Lakeland edible stars - it would make a lovely celebratory drink... http://www.lakeland.co.uk/14528/Edible-Silver-Stars

You could get them each a key ring that say "25 years" in silver on them - my husband has a nice thick one he got for Christmas with his name engraved. A lot of cobblers and key cutting places also do engraving so you could get it done on the weekend. His is like this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silver-Paul-engraved-keyring-/160660108011?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_205&hash=item256816b2eb#ht_500wt_1287

You could make 25 cupcakes in silver foil cases? (Dead easy if you want I can give you some instructions)

Silver earrings for her, silver cufflinks for him? (Could find some in Argos)

We have just celebrated out silver wedding (gulp!), and speaking from experience, whilst it was nice to recieve pressies, we arent really trinket people (eg ornaments etc, although the kids did have a personalised frame done from ebay for us). Your in laws may be in the same position as us, pot plants/roses/trees etc are nice- but not everyone has green fingers, and ornaments are a pretty personal choice I feel.

The cupcake idea is lovely- a cheap cardboard cupcake stand ( the Works have a wire one for about £5).
depending on how big/small your budget is- silver foil cases can look lovely, but there are plenty of downloadable cupcake wrapper templates on the net, cut them out of paper doilies and either spray or ink them silver.
Why not make them a silver themed takeaway evening?( ie silver plates, napkins, glasses etc- these can be paper or not again depending on your budget), and decorate the table with confetti, balloons etc ((the card factory has a decent reasonable range).

Another idea is to take a photo of them together and make them an IOU of say a poster or canvas print. You could try and get hold of their original wedding pics and do a collage of 'then and now' in a frame. (Our son produced an album for us of our blessing which we will keep with out wedding album)

What I am trying to say is that after 25 years of gathering thier own bits and pieces around them they might prefer a pressie to be really tailored and thought out to them- it doesnt necessarily need to be a 'tangible' pressie, and evening dedicated to them either in the form of a meal out or a takeaway at home with a silver wedding anniversary themed table may just be a memory they cherish long after the inevitable nik-naks have been relegated to the loft. You dont need to spend a fortune to make it a special pressie for them.
    lovin' this site!
