Mortgage Deed Witness

I need to send some information off to the solicitiors re mortgage and it's asking for our signatures to be signed by a witness.
It doesn't give any more information than that, can it be anyone? Should it be a solicitor? Do we need separate witnesses for 2 signatures?
For the witnesses - if not solicitors, can they be of any occupation, re Retired?

Unless it specifies otherwise, anyone can witness your signature(s) and you can use the same witness for both signatures as far as I know.I am a mortgage broker. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser Code of Conduct.
