Mortgage advice needed

My wife and I have always held a joint mortgage.
I went through bankruptcy 9 yrs ago, lost my house but had an £18,000 shortfall in the mortgage for complicated reasons. My wife has since been responsible for paying that off(although I have been) and today the mortgage company has accepted £5800 to settle the outstanding £18,000. But the shortfall they say has to remain on her credit file.
Now we have had a mortgage for 4 years and would like to move house and increase the mortgag. The question I have is, would it be easier for us to aplly for this new mortgage in my name only or will the fact that my wife has this on her file still affect it as much as if we applied jointly?

If the previous mortgage was in joint names, it should be reflected on both of your files regardless.I am an Independent Financial AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as an Independent Financial Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
