I have heard of people making cash this way, but is it a scam overall?

the only advice i can give is if you see something like stuffing envelopes etc be very careful ... if they ask for a registration fee ... don't touch it with a bargepole because they are scams! good luck though

My mum used to stuff envelopes and put together hair product sample kits when I was at school. It paid, but not massively well (as you'd probably expect) but it was something she could do whenever she had a few spare moments (and when she was nearly finished, she'd often get us kids to help).

She did have to go and get all the bits herself, so if you don't have a car it's probably not that worthwhile. Also, while the pay may be just about alright once you get used to the work and fast at it, don't expect it to be very good, and expect to be earning considerably less than the minimum wage as you learn.

Surveys are a scam though, they never pay out.

Some are, plenty are not - Loads of info on MSE about good/bad sites or check out the survey police website

If you've 16 hours a week to spare, you could always write a wordpress.org blog about something you know well, and put google ads on it. It won't be much to begin with (probably only a few pence) but if you keep adding new content you will find you get more traffic & ad revenue. Some people make a very comfortable living doing this!

Got a new idea don't know if it will work though. How popular is dog working as a spare job? I enjoy walking dogs.

When I was looking for a dog walker I only wanted one for during the day, and I couldn't find one- they were all booked for during the day and all had pretty much empty evening slots. If you're on fixed shifts it could be a good idea, though if your shifts are all over the place it may not work- if I'd employed you I'd want you to be there at the same time on prearranged days, every week without fail (unless emergency obviously)

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up; always try just one more time
