Home Transcription Program - DSS Player Pro R5

Help! I have recently upgraded by PC and on reinstalling all my programs discovered that i no longer had the serial number for my Olympus dictation system (DSS Player Pro Release 5). I have contacted Olympus who say that they can't do anything except offer to sell me a new licence at over £100!!!! I paid the same for the whole system including footpedal, headphones, software, etc in the first place and can't affor to give them the same amount of money for a new licence.
Does anyone know of any way at all I can sort this, or of a home transcription kit which is compatable with an Olympus footpedal which will not cost a million pounds. I rely on this for home work and am missing work and desparate.
Thanks.

You say you upgraded your system? Is that in bought a new one or made significant changes to the old one? Do you still have the software installed on an old hard drive somewhere or have you formated/ sold/ destroyed the drive it was installed on? If you still have the drive somewhere it MAY be possible to recover the serial number from it.
Did you contact the seller you bought from to see if they can assist in any way?0 -
I used to have an Olympus transcription kit but I sold it on Ebay, so can't help you there I'm afraid. I now use Express Scribe (free download) and I bought a compatible footpedal quite cheaply. I find the Express Scribe software easier to use than Olympus.
I think it is very hard to find any other equipment that is compatible with Olympus software.0 -

I have basically stripped my PC and started again. I cannot trace the serial number from it as it is no longer "within its memory". I have tried that and used "licencecrawler" to see if i could find it out.
I have tried contacting the seller, but it was in 2008 when i bought it and they haven't even responded to me!
I understand they just can't throw out new licences, but I just can't understand how it can cost so much when I have everything and have been using it myself at home honestly and serioulsy cannot afford another £100 odd pount (in fact I think it is £127!) it just seems such a rip off.0 -

I actually downloaded Express Scribe and am waiting for a refund as I discovered it was not comapitable with my footpedal. Do you find it reliable and can you listen to DSS and ds2 files on it? I am noticing it very hard to find any kind of reasonably cheap download that is compatable with the Olympus pedal.0 -
You are never going to get the license key back
. Unfortunately it's a lesson hard learned, that you must keep all your serial keys in a safe place 0 -

I find Express Scribe very reliable and easy to use. I have been using it for a couple of years now. If you get files like DSS, etc, you can use a program to convert them so they can be played on Express Scribe. The Switch Sound File Convert is made by the same people who do Express Scribe. The basic version is free to download and if you upgrade you will have a wider choice of file formats to convert to and from.
Transcription Buddy is another free transcription software which you can use to play back files, and it has its own built in file conversion tool too.
I am sorry you have this problem with Olympus, it really is a nuisance.0 -

True enough, I will frame all future licence keys!!!!0
