Second Job

Well after I have squeezed down most of the outgoings, still thinking about upping the income with a second job (pref on the weekends).

Trouble is that (a) I am on the top marginal tax rate 40% and (b) most second jobs pay about £8 ph.

So this means I give up the ONLY time with my family for about £4.80ph or £50 pw (say).

Any input folks???

Cheers - Brad M

  • I have just taken on a second job also. Really only works out to 35 hrs in total during the week but with 2 children and a husband who works 7 days a week it's not ideal.

I say needs must and i've gone at it from the point of view that it may bring along new oppourtunities and open new doors. I'm only £150 per month better off but it's better than not having enough.

As long as your family are happy (yes it takes time to adjust) i'd say go with your gut feeling. If it dosent work just pack it in.

Not much of an insight i know, but hey!

    Good luck
  • Hi Brad,

    Welcome to DFW!

Have you posted a Statement of Affairs? People on here may be able to help you cut your outgoings and save money without you having to cut down on time with your family.

On the second job front, for me it would depend on how much it would cut down on my debts...if you had an extra 200 quid a month, how much quicker would you be able to pay off your debts? If it would reduce it dramatically, then I'd be really tempted but if it's a drop in the ocean and you can afford current levels of repayments....
