Christkindl Glühwein at Lidl

Options
Hi

I was just wondering if anyone had tried this at all?

I picked up a mulled / spiced wine from somewhere last year and quite frankly it was used as drain cleaner!

It's put me off a lot of the wines now so I was just wondering if this was one anyone would reccommend?

Thanks

I think drain cleaner is what its supposed to taste like, probably better to find a recipe for mulled wine and make it yourself!

The Gluhwein sold in Lidl last Christmas came top of a survey by one of the national newspapers.

On the strength of that, I bought a bottle. Microwaved mugs of Gluhwein perked-up my Christmas spirits nicely, so I bought a couple more bottles to see me into the new year.

I see from the Lidl website that it's now £4.49 for a litre bottle. 8.7% vol. I vaguely recall it being under £4 last year. I will buy at least one bottle this year.

You can also buy mulled wine sachets. Co-op scores faily well but not sure of others. You could always put a sachet into some cheap but good wine that you've bought yourself.

Apparently, this beats all the other mulled wine mixes according to food critic Martin Isark.

usually very popular, some stores will definatly struggle for stock in the run up to xmas so might be a good idea to pick up a bottle or two now just incase
March wins - Heinz sauce, 3DS game, Blu ray
  • When Lidl started selling Glühwein a few years ago it was £1.99 per litre bottle. Now they (and Aldi) are asking £4.49 a bottle, last year I think it was about £3.99 per bottle. Are we being ripped off? - I've just picked up some from Germany and Holland where the price was only €1.99 - same size, same product. I accept that the duty and tax might be different in the UK and there are shipping costs - but so big a difference?

If you are not sure you like Glühwein try adding rum or amareto. Great!
