  • Hoarding says Liverpool is due to open Autumn 2007. Southport Primark is not bad, on 2 floors, nicely laid out. It's on Chapel Street, same street as train station, Woolies, Boots and Mark One.

I know this is a bit off topic but can someone help settle a family argument?! A Primark recently opened near me but my question is this - is it pronounced Pr-eye-mark or Pr-ee-mark? Sounds daft  I know but I have an ongoing argument with my sister-in-law about which is right. Can anyone give me the definitive answer and restore family unity??!!
  • Talking to a friend whos in the know, apparently they found asbestos in the building so thats delaying opening, maybe september is what they are saying now! Just have to go to manchester and steal all their bargains, not too keen on birkenhead not enough of a range, Southports toooo far, lol Sharron

You get what you pay IMHO but they are crippling smaller businesses and markets. I sell underwear but it is discounted brand stuff - say £12 for a bra - if you look after it then it'll last 2 years if you don't change size. People prefer to pay £6 in Primark for something that last a coupleof months because of quality is poor. More MSE to buy the brands in my opinion!! I used to work a market and used to sell past season Gossard for £5, Berlei for £4 but people would not buy this as 'you can buy cheaper in Primark'. Sorry, for a well made, good fitting bra you won't but as soon as Primark came to the twon it killed off a lot of trade - peoples livlehoods depending on selling at markets but Primark killed this within a week as people can get it £1 cheaper even if it only getsa few wears.

Sure I've bought there in the past but I won't again - the quality is dire, the kids vest I bought shrunk in the wash - not local so could not take it back so a complete watse of £3 when I could have bought good quality elsewhere for £5 that last more than one wash. I do not buy there anymore, I generally buy from Next (in the sale at around half price) as the quaility is good and it does not shrink or twist and most of the stuff does very well in a hot wash - important when you have a family. My hubby got a Primark sweater at Xmas, I washed it and stuck it on the radiator to dry and the front went 2 shades - black and purple - and then had to go in the bin. I always use radiators to dry and this has never happened before - it even stained the radiator! You do get what you pay for and Primark generally tends to be cheap tat that can go in the bin after a few washes if that!!

I love Primark, I always find their clothes quite good quality, I have no problem with washing or shrinking, but then I always wash at 30 degrees in true mse fashion to save energy and the environment, the bikinis etc are really good, but I love it best when they reduce stuff to a pound, bags and gloves and all sorts of stuff, roll on autumn!!!!

Heh, my friends and I have that argument. It must be Pr-eye-mark because every other word spelt similarly is pronounced that way - Private, Pricing, Pride etc... unless someone can think of a word that begins Pri- and is 'Pree'?

    Prima donna?
  • Primark is brill. I bought a brown corduroy hooded jacket there 3 years ago and still wear it all the time, brill quality and style.
A few tops i've had have fell to bits or stretched in the wash, but for a few quid each, who cares.
Their shoes, bikinis, undies and bedding are unbeatable. You just have to try and keep the images of sweatshops out of your head...
