Anyone else come across an alternative to soco, soco is getting a tad expensive now and want to explore alternatives.

  • Have you tried dark rum at all? I used to drink soco but it went a long time ago when I was clearing my debts!

The prices range a lot with some of the really nice ones (Mount Gay / Lambs / Bacardi) being around £17 - £18 / litre. I got a bottle of Mr A's own last time which is about £14 a litre and it's OK - they do wee bottles for about £5 which work out more but may be worth it in case you don't like it.

There's also a more spicy dark one called Sailor Jerry (not tried but it may be more like soco) also around £18 / litre.

So not cheap, cheap but a few quid a bottle less than soco. HTH

If you've an Al*di or Li*dl, it may be worth seeing what they've got - I tried some of Li*dl's cider and it's lovely......
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!
  • The supermarket own brand bourbons make a nice alternative and they are a fair bit cheaper.

In the run up to Christmas you should keep your eye out for the loss leader offers in the supermarket - I'm sure last year sainsburys did a really cheap deal on soco last year.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Ive tried morgans spiced rum(not really dark is it), i have tried some sainsburys dark rum and i have to say it was strong but i tried it straight rather than mixed with coke/pepsi.

Yeah seen sailor jerry around and i may like the fact its spicy but its a rum but i may get a bottle and try it.

    Thanks rising form the ashes.

Soco is £15 in asda or £15.73 in Sainsbury's and sailor jerry is £14.37(cheapest ive seen so far) in Sainsbury's. Saninsbury's have 20% of a few spirits.
