it has already been delivered with the 1000 extra points on the receipt. will they just take them off again?

They wont chrage you because the money hasn't gone out of your account, and as far as they're concerned might not. It's what they call "in holding" - Tesco are just making sure the account is valid and active.

As a newbie to the Tesco.com shopping using codes thing can I ask how many codes you can use on one order? If this is posted somewhere I can't find it! I've managed to use XX-FNHY on my order (£80 before BOGOFs) but it tells me I can't use any others.Is this correct? I was hoping there was a page on MSE that gives instructions re: ordering on Tesco using codes for the first-time user (like the Pigsback page for newbies so you know what to click on for free points, etc). Hoping someone can help me.

Busterollie, You can only use 1 code on tesco.com groceries, sometimes you get away with 2-3 on tesco direct but not all the time.

I would seriously recommend using the 1000 points vouchers instead of the £8 off as the 1000 points are worth £10 in store or £40 if you change them for alton towers tickets/hotel vouchers (Details on deals HERE)

Just rang for car insurance and it took 10 minutes to get through. However The very nice lady on the other end asked me when my policy is up renewal. I told her December and she said that they couldn't give me a quote for December because they were really busy, but they will give me the 500 points anyway. Chuffed is not the word. Might be a new directive could be luck of the draw.
