Evening buffet food options

Hi everyone
Our wedding isn't until next year but we're thinking about the menu! The wedding breakfast is at 3.30pm and if for 60 people. Then we're having 100 people for the evening from 7.30pm.
We've got a package and have a few options for the evening buffet. Haven't really been to many weddings, so was hoping for some advice about what people think the best choices would be!
We can have either a finger food buffet or a hot menu - (not really expecting people to pick exact options here, just some ideas about whether you'd go for the finger food or the hot menu!). Finger food is cold choices, eg, salads, chicken goujons, etc. Hot menus are lasagne/chicken curry...

a lot will depend on who comes to your evening reception and what you have already eaten during the day...
If your guests have had a sit down meal in the day time then personally I would be inclined to say go for the buffet option in the evening....
but if you intend to invite a different set of guests in the evening to those that were there in the day then you may want to consider the hot sit down option..
Its also worth considering the time of year you get married as that might influence your choice...in the height of summer when the sun is supposed to be shining and its a warm summer evening then your guests may prefer a buffet to the sit down or at least menu 2 of the hot menu which may be a little lighter than menu 1...but the opposite could be said if its a winter wedding...
Glancing through the menus there looks to be a good choice...although something that you might want to be mindful of is beetroot in the salad...its a devil of a stain to get out if your guests get it on their clothes and its not a good look if you dribble the odd bit down a white dress or worse still sit on a stray bit thats on a chair you sit on...so if it were me i'd remove all temptation and not order it as part of your choices...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Sounds yummy. I agree with LEJC that if many of the guests have had a sit down meal, then a finger buffet might be the prefered option.
Both hot menus sounds nice, but even though I personally love curry/spicy flavours, I would be wary of menu one, but I think that is because my hubby to be's family really are not keen on spicy food, so I generally avoid it for occasions. Menu two sounds lovely but I do think rather heavy for those who have had the wedding breakfast.
I think the buffet choices gives you lots of choice and the ability to easily cater for veggies. Out of thos options I would choose:
Hot Dishes:
Tandoori chicken kebabs (easier to eat than wings and gives carnivores something to tuck into)
Meat and vegetable samosas with raita dip (I find they keep better than things like fish which can go quite soggy when on a buffet....i would also be tempted by the potato wedges)
Cold Dishes:
Selection of assorted wraps (been to a few buffets recently and the wraps all went....every single one)
Selection of open sandwiches (similar to wraps I know but I think quiche isn;t always popular even though I love it! Pitta bread and dips might be a bit messy)
Salads
Curried coleslaw
Mixed leaf with green oil (a shame you can't have more than two. I agree with the betreet comment above, people don't always like onion. The cucumber one sounds nice though!)
Hope that helps!:D:cool:"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0 -
Thanks for your advice! Wedding is in October (next year!).
Most of the guests will have had the 3 course meal and around an extra 40ish will be coming just for the evening. Sounds like the cold buffet is the way to go! Suppose it also means people can pick over a longer period of time...0 -
We are having a sit down 3 course meal for 100 people with a extra 60 guests to the evening do
We have chosen a BBQ for our evening buffet food. It was a comprimise though between OH & me as i wanted a BBQ for the main meal but OH felt it was to informalGetting married Sat 1st September.Saving like mad for the next 40 weeks0 -
I would say it depends on what time the evening food is being served. If it is around 9pm then it would be too late for most to have as their main evening meal and if they had already eaten they wouldn't want such a huge buffet.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
