Decorating baubles?

Hi everyone
I bought the photo baubles from boots in their clearance last year thinking they would make beautiful keepsake gifts if we put a picture of dd in them.
The problem is they came in tubes of two, and in bright fluorescent pink and a not very well painted matt silver colour.
What I would like to do is to decorate them somehow to make them firstly more Christmas-sy and to get rid of the original colours. I was thinking of gluing the baubles and dipping them in silver and gold glitter, however the glitter is bound to get everywhere and I don't want to be the one who is blamed for glitter still on the carpets months down the line.
Can anyone suggest any ideas to change these baubles into gorgeous, more festive looking gifts, pretty please?

I made glitter cars with the kids last year and used spray adhesive, then sprayed them again to keep the glitter in place, this might help??Thrifty Gifty Money Making =£280 Sealed pot challenge 1192 Toluna = 77339 Bingoport = £10 redeemed + 33470

Do you think if I used acrylic paints applied with sponges that would work or will that peel straight off. I had though perhaps glueing beads on but unless the base colour is covered I'm going to be in the same situation I think.
Also I think I may personalise it with my daughters name and the year too to make it extra special. I think if paint works then I would use a stencil to put these on and then use some sort of glitter to write in the middle of writing giving a shadowed effect.
Have no idea if this is possible though, do we have any crafters on here that may use similar materials or techniques that could advise what iI should be buying to acheive the results I would like?Comping wishlist for 2017

yes glitter stayed quite well, no more mess than some of my bought ones I have on tree

Acrylic tends to scratch quite easily, what about seed bead?Thrifty Gifty Money Making =£280 Sealed pot challenge 1192 Toluna = 77339 Bingoport = £10 redeemed + 33470 -
I shall look into that then, thanks Susie, sounds like that may be an option for the glitter.
I wonder how they actually colour the baubles when they are made, that's what I need to do really lol. I wonder if the aerosol sprays you can get in places like B&Q would work and whether there is a spray that can seal the colour in.
The more I think about it the bigger ideas I have which maybe isn't helping. The problem with seed bead is that the base colour would show through unless I glued them individually by hand, and these aren't small baubles either, they are pretty huge. I have 10 to make!
I wonder if I should buy some small ones to practice on first

My sister once used tiny ones as gift tags one year. Very simple, it was just our names written on in silver/gold permanent pen. You can get all kinds of colours in permanent ink now (I picked some up in a £1 in Glasgow last week) - maybe you could just colour them in with the ink. And you can never go wrong with a little glitter. When the ink is dry, you could use either a glue pen, cocktail stick or small paintbrush to add glue and then glitter. Or... use glitter glue. Easy and the glitter doesn't come off so easily. My Dad once decorated my glasses frames with glitter glue one Christmas and it stayed on for months!0
