Attendance allowance help please.

Hi, just a quick one if you dont mind.
My grandad has made a cliam for attendance allowance after having a stroke, he has had another anc come out today and found a letter from them saying that it will be paid in May.
He has phoned them up and they say that he has to incapsitated for 6 months before they will pay it.
Is this true, he was led to belive that he would get it as soon as the claim was proccesed.
I have looked on the direct gov website, and cannot find anything on a quick glance.

yes ............ personal care has to have been required for 6 months prior to the claim but no forward requirement ( i.e does not have to be expected to last for more than 6 months like dla)...... hope this helpsmustn't grumble :cool:0

Thanks, yeah it does help, he was led to belive he would get it straight away so is a bit annoyed at finding out diffrent.

no back pay im afraid if the condition hasn't required personal help for the last 6 months, naughty of someone not to explain fully about criteria for claims thoughmustn't grumble :cool:0

yes thats right but only if the condition has lasted 6 months prior to claim, the rules suck!........ best wishes to your grandad though, hope he recovers well xxmustn't grumble :cool:0

The fast-track process is for terminally ill people, under "Special Rules" for Attendance Allowance. This is back dated to the date of the phone call requesting the application form. This is what happened for my later father.
