Apple!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it that the prices of their products are so much more expensive here than in the US? e.g.

The new iphone 4s on their website

US from $199 (must have 2 year contract)
UK from £499

ipod touch

US $199 (£129 at today's exchange rate)
UK £169

I know i don't have to buy any of their products but why do we pay more?

I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Bad exchange rates and the US listed prices never include tax.

The UK market will bare the higher price
The US price may exclude local sales tax as that varies from state to state whilst UK price includes VAT
    Higher shop overheads in UK

Tax innit. All sorts of tax. The US prices don't include sales tax or local tax and the UK ones include import taxes.

Yet another good reason not to buy apple products.

What really annoys me is the free advertising they get in the media.

Stupid argument, iPhones closest competitor - Samsung Galaxy S2 is still £500+.

Also any big company releases a major new product it gets shedloads of press.

The OP is about the price difference between the US and the UK for apple products. I agreed to this. Quoting the cost of a competitor for one apple product in the UK does not make this a stupid argument.

As for free advertising look at the right hand side of this page!

Ah well it'll all become a lot more annoying when you've paid £499 for your Iphone 4 and the iphone 5 comes along a year later (or next week as it is now)

you have to be quite mad, best words I can think of to buy any apple product at this time of the year, everyone should know its in the press a lot that apple refresh all of their products in Sept / Oct each year in time for christmas sales.

Just googling brings it up, and if you buy new now and next year they change it again its just what happens, buy a 2011 car and the 2012 version will make it out of date
