It's more than a bit silly - it is amongst the most economically illiterate ideas ever. While it may be a good idea individually to pay off you credit card, if everyone does it, deflation and depression are simply inevitable.
More than likely, it sounded like a good idea to the party faithful, a bit like Thatchers "housewife economics".
Running an economy is nothing like running a household budget - however.
Add to the fact the sickening rank hypocrisy of a multi millionaire telling us poor saps to tighten their belt - while his city mates are feasting on quails tongue washed down with Krug.

Turns out that Dave's heavily previewed speech has been rewritten.
Apparently, his advisers, after some reconsideration thought that a millionaire PM telling the nation to pay off their credit card debts might make him look like an out of touch t**t.
I heard that on the BBC news, now he's apparently going to say something along the lines of
"People are paying down their debts which is good and that people who do have disposable income should have the confidence to spend to help the economy."
Which if he does say the above is really neither here or there in meaning.

I think credit cards are an unnecessary evil and should be banned. Would never have one again.I paid off my debts ages ago (not that I had many).I tried to not spend tomorrow's wages today. I preferred to save some of today's wages in case tomorrow's wages didn't arrive. That plan seems to have been a good one.
