Looking for Marquee Decoration / Centrepiece Ideas!

Hello All,

My finace and I are getting married in June 2013 and our reception will be held in the hotels marquee. I love the open-ness and space it provides, but I'm unsure how I would decorate it! Same with centre pieces for the tables, I'm not sure where to start with these.

I was thinking maybe oversized candle holder type things, or maybe ostrich feather quite flamboyant decorations but I'm just not sure!

Has anyone held/having their reception in a marquee and what sort of decorations did/will you have?

I havent had my wedding yet but weddings I have been to this year in marquees:
    1) had formal high lily vases with flowers on a mirror plate chair covers and some draping
    2) this wedding was more retro, think bunting in light pinks and blues, glass coco cola bottles and jam jars with flowers and the larger displays were in larger glass kilner jars it wasnt formal at all very relxed country feel and looked amazing
    3) Again quite rustic large glass vases filled with lemon and limes (there colours) and they had lots of large laterns across the ceiling and in the tress outside they had tealights in jars.

HTH have a look online for ideas and look at your budget....

We were very concerned about getting enough colour into our marquee, as we wanted a really bright, summery vibe, so we went with:
Orange carpet - sounds hideous, but was really funky actually.
Checkered dancefloor (broke up the funky carpet ;))
Coloured uplighting - broke up the white walls
Large, coloured, paper baubles hanging from the ceiling
    Tall, floral arrangements on tables
    Free standing large floral arrangement.
Coloured table linen on "food pods" (pink and purple)
LED lit poseur tables and bar chairs (various colours)
Bright coloured bean bags (various colours)
Bright coloured "cube" stools (various colours)
Fish bowls of bright sweeties (love hearts, lollies etc)

Lets see if I can find a couple of photos:

ETA: Forgot to mention, we also wrapped ribbon around all of the metal poles in the marquee to give them a "lift" :)
  • We had giant martini glasses filled with purple beads with a cream gerbera head on the top. On the back of all the childrens' chairs we tied purple balloons.

've just typed the words "decorating marquee for wedding" into a search engine and scrolled through the images and there are loads of pics and ideas that you might want to consider/adapt....

It really depends what type of feel you want the space to have...in June you could go lots of ways from "pretty country" to "elegant" using tall lillies and candelabras (although you may find they cant be lit by candles re the fire safety regulations , fairy lights also create a soft light but you would need to make sure each string could be connected to the electricity supply easily...the pics that Idio has posted are great and I bet they lit up the area with the lovely colourful displays...

Flower balls hanging from the celing space can be very effective a little like this

If I remember rightly a few of the brides earlier in the year had marquee weddings...possibly those in the april thread..have a look there I'm sure when they married they posted some fantastic pics of the decorated effects

Bunting is great to string around the marquees its very cheap to make or can be bought from ebay also quite cheaply and covers blank white spaces very well....

Large vases with feathers or even twigs would look stunning too.

Again dependant on the look you want it is quite easy to go big in the spaces you have so flowers like sunflowers, gladioli, hydrangea, stocks, peoney and lillies all work really well
