Quick Slow Cooker Question?

Options
Do you think this recipe would be OK in a slow cooker?

http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/369538/Gary-Rhodes--chicken-and-chorizo-stew

I know it only takes half an hour but I'd like to do it in the morning and come in to it, ready cooked, in the evening.

Would the chicken go really tough? Or would it all turn to mush?

    I don't see why not.

Just start the ingredients as the recipe states and transfer into a warmed slow cooker on low.

edit: bear in mind chorizo's let out a lot of oil.

from personal experience I have found that diced chicken can break up if its left in there too long. have you got a timer plug? they are handy for things that don't need quite so long.

    Leave the chicken breasts whole.

I've never had a problem before with either chicken or pheasant breasts cooked for 7-8 hours.

    Oh good plan!

I will skim the chorizo fat off at the end.

    Thanks for the advice.

I prefer chicken thighs in the slow cooker rather than chicken breasts as I find the long slow cooking can make the breast meat very dry. I'll add this thread to the slow cooker quick questions thread later as your question may help others.

  • This wasn't your question, but the recipe reminded me of Nigel Slater's sausage and bean "soup" which is actually more stew like. No chicken, so it's more MSE as well. :money:

I use tinned toms, leave out the orange zest and fennel as I never have those in, and add a splash of red wine vinegar instead of the sherry - if I remember! Last time I forgot and it was still very tasty.

I LOVE this recipe, have chorizo in the fridge to make it this week. Just thought you might like an alternative if you're a chorizo fan. :)

Thighs and sausages sound much better, I know, but it's breasts I have in. I will leave them whole and make sure there's plenty of liquid in.

Will try that one next week, thanks.
