Loan with GE Money for DFS Suite

when the DFS sale was in there, i purchased a suite in DFS. they had 0% finance on so i thought i may as well take advantage of it, but pay it off in 6 months or so well before the year to avoid takig the 3 year finance. I got the paperwork for the suite in today from GE money only to see a large amount for Payment Protection added into the monthly payments. i got out the sales paperwork from DFS and there was a statement saying "if this box is ticked you confirm you require optional payment Protection insurance" - I didnt tick it- the sales man must have. at no stage did he mention Payment Protection. I did ask him if i paid the full amount ( sale price on the day ) within the year was the sale price all i had to pay ? and he said yes. I did sign the sales contract though at the bottom of the page.
I am so angry , i rang the shop and they said to call back in the morning and speak to the sales person ? can anyone advise me ?

  • Get written confirmation from the salesman that he will sort it out.
Then write a letter to GE money quoting your loan details stating that you did not want the insurance and that the salesman ticked the box without your authority.
I would also ask them to send you a BGC credit slip NOW so that you can pay off the loan before the interest starts to kick in.

They said i can ring up anytime before December 2007 and make regular payments on my switch card. which i have done before when i purhased a tv. I just thought it was very sneaky just ticking the box and hoping i didnt notice. Im sure he has done it with loads of other people.i never ever take Payment protection.will he not say "well you signed the agreement" ?

Are DFS at fault fo ticking the "payment protection" box. Or am I for not reading it all thoroughly.

If the salesman turns out to be a little difficult tomorrow, I would argue that at the time of signing you double checked the PPI box, and it hadn't been ticked. Therefore must have been ticked after you signed?

This is true and DOES happen!!!

I wouldn't doubt it for a minute...but you dont expect a big company like DFS to be so sneaky.they obviously get a few quid for each ppi they get signed up. the problem is there were about 3 copies and the one he gave me is "ticked" as will the copies underneath.

Is there not some sort of cooling off period with these kind of things??

I've heard of people who have negotiated a discount on electrical goods by taking out the ppi, only to cancel it within a set time frame.;)

You can cancel the PPI. Just ring the helpline number for your agreement and they will cancel. You should have also signed a seperate box for PPI.
  • Have you spoken to him yet blondie?

Let us know how you got on..

    Hi All
    just got in from work...Well......
was straight on the phone this morning to DFS and asked the guy why he had ticked the box for the PPI and not asked me did i want it. He said it only kicks in if i dont pay the suite in full in the first 11 months.. He didnt explain this either to me at the time of sale. So i asked him to confirm that to me in writing.so hopefully i am sorted. So beware if you go shopping in DFS.
