money deducted from wages

Can someone please advise me who to contact to find out who deducted an ammount (and why) from my wife's wages via a "court order"?
I've contacted both the Magistrates' Court and the County Court and they say there's nothing outstanding under either of our names. They suggested that if I obtained either a case number or a cap? number, they might be able to point me in the right direction but my wife's wages department is in India, and the UK is unable to contact them today because the lines are so busy. If anyone can help, I'd appreeciate it

Are you aware of any debts that she might have been taken to court for? Or fines etc? You could search the registery trust online to see if any court orders or CCJs come up on there (costs £8 per search though). Or her credit file to see if anything is on there (not all things would show though, eg a council tax liability order would not show).
Aside from that you will need the reference number that your wife's employer was given to order the deduction to be able to move forward. Is this the first month it has been deducted?
Can the UK office contact them by email to try to clear this up?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
We've had debts in the past, but we've had no letters informing us of this. This is the first month it's been deducted. I suppose I'll have to wait on the wages department's reply - they tried to contact India by phone, and the local office is due to close soon so they'll try again early morning.
I really don't want to pay fees to find out something that I'll have tomorrow morning ~ just thought I'd try and avoid a sleepless night.
Many thanks for the reply, btw0
