    This ovens only 18 months old but my sister had it before me and her partner managed to warp the top because it was so hot (pans sit on an angle) so he might have damaged the inside too, I never thought of that until now. I'll have a look into finding a thermometer, only have a meat one.
    One day I might be more organised...........:confused:

  • your oven has a too high temperature

    lower by 10 degrees or so

    Mine is a fan oven so at 1st it was trial & error.

  • I had this happen when I tried a nigella recipe for fairy cakes. The temp was 20 degrees too high and there was too much liquid in the mixture. The recipe above is the same one I now use but nigella had milk in hers which meant they didn't ever cook all the way through.
    I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!

    This is one of the many reasons I hate electric cookers. But short of swapping it for a gas one I agree the answer is to turn the oven down to 160 or 170.
  • If you have bits that have cooked properly you can cut them off and freeze them and use as trifle sponges. Tastes fine...
