Washing Machine probs in rented house

we just moved into our new rented house last week, everything going fine until yesterday when the washing machine broke down (won't spin). called the landlord who came out last night to have a look at it. After about 20 mins he managed to get the door open to get my wet washing out, and got the machine to start spinning while empty, and then left.

Once it stopped spinning, I had a look and there's about 2 inches of water in the bottom of the drum. Set it to pump out the water, and it did nothing. Called the landlord to say it still wasn't right. His solution - read the manual and see what it says! Told him I had already done this (before I called him the first time) and he said he will try and get out this week to fix it as he's then going off on holiday for two weeks!

Can I just phone up a local repair company, get them to fix it and send the bill to the landlord? Even more frustrating is we have a perfectly good washing machine in storage that he won't let us install in the house, as the current machine in the house is integrated, as are all the other kitchen units!

*just realised I've posted this in the wrong place - can someone tell me how to move it to the house renting bit please!*

it will be the carbon bushes ?
Cost about £50/75 to fix with a washing machine engineer called out
    Back to your landlord
Have a look on the internet and put your make and model + problem
I saw a youtube video of how to replace the bushes but still got a repair man out ( at least I knew what was wrong )

You can't move it yourself. Repost on the other board, then come back here and edit your opening post, to say in bold text that you have started a new thread and on which board.

I doubt it's the carbon brushes. It's more likely to be that the water isn't being pumped out sufficiently to allow the spin cycle to start. Check for blockages (buttons/pins/fluff) in the machine's hose leading to the waste pipe.
    Good luck.
