Latest issue of Cbeebies magazine has a great set of phonics cards on the cover which is really useful for my ds in Reception as he has to practice some phonics for homework.
Our primary school is a Read Write Inc. Model School and teach it from nursery! It is a lot to get your head around but it really does teach them how to read. My eldest child in Y5 is a brilliant reader thanks to this scheme.

It may be worth noting schools teach phonics differently, having just moved I've realised the new school has different examples for phonics Ie rrrr at our last school was a roar like like a lion here it's rrrr like a robot.
It may be worth checking if they are the same method to avoid confusion.
Great deal though as these cards are normally quite pricey

I have to agree be careful as if they are different images then it could cause confussion to the scheme a school may use- you can buy the read write inc cards if you wantA big thank you to all those who post on the forum and make it a worthwhile place!!!:j0

Hi there,
The cards are not full size, approx 5cm x 3cm. The pictures are different to RWI as they are alpha blocks branded but the sounds are the same so I'm just using them to go through the sounds with my ds, once a day. He loves it!
Best wishes,

Picked them up for my son today as well - hope he enjoys playing with them !!0

Thanks shall have a look for them tomorrow0

The cards feature the "Alphablocks" shown on cbeebies. Most schools teach phonics using the jolly phonics scheme which is fantastic

Thats good to know my class love alphablocks so may get them and mix them with rwi that way can identify if they are relient on the pictures
RWI is a fairly new initiative which is being pushed through and is trying to replace Jolly phonic's as it is more consistant in its approach from sounds- reading- writing. The lady who wrote it also wrote the government document letters and sounds which has been used across the countryA big thank you to all those who post on the forum and make it a worthwhile place!!!:j0 -
I got this at the weekend for my little girl and was so pleased that something useful was being given away, rather than the usual plastic tat. My 3 year old daughter hasn't stopped playing with them as she is fascinated with letters at the moment. Well worth buying.
