EDF new Prices

I was led to believe from the headline news that EDF's prices are going up by 15.4% and 4.5% for Elec and gas respectively. However, according to a letter I received today, the daily standing charge for gas is going up by 50% - well at least on my tariff (online saver V8). Also my unit charge has increased by 8.7%. This is not in line with their announcement. I'm just wondering whether to call them (if I can get through on their pathetic 'new' system.

  • Thats the average price hike of all the tariff's they offer each tariff will have its own price increase, My old OS7 tariff before I switched to Scottish Power increased by way over 20% in price for both gas and electricity.

Thats why compared to what I was paying at the time even the "reasonable" Prices of EDF's V2 & 2014 fixes were still far to expensive for me.

Have you got actual figures for the OS7 increase on November 10th??

All the comparison sites are still using my current prices and EDF make it so hard to find out the actual costs...

I know it will be different by region but a rough figure would be nice:(
  • OS7 isnt going up on november 10th - it expires on december 31st anyway.

In the FAQ on their website it says something about OS8 being different and they'd send a letter to explain. Seems the difference is a bigger hike!

The 15.4% and 4.5% for Elec and gas statement covers standard prices only, the same as announcements from any other supplier. They do this because ~70% of the country are on standard prices.

Online S@ver 8's new prices are still cheap in comparison to the current market and are still below the guarantees given in the T&C's. If you don't like the new prices you can leave without paying a cancellation fee, you just have to inform your current supplier within 10 days.

If you don't like price changes don't sign up to a variable tariff.
  • It's not that I don't like variable tariffs, in fact I prefer a variable tariff to a fixed one, but a 50% increase on the daily charge is far too excessive.
