Credit card late payment charge

I have late payment charge from 3 or 4 years ago on a now cancelled credit card. It's only £20 - would it worth claiming this as the online fee is £30?

If I did claim would this affect the chances of getting a new card for a 0% deal with the same issuer?

The 0% period would save me much more than £20.

    I would suggest you get the 0% deal first, then look at the charges. Two reasons:

    1) they can't refuse you the card because you've reclaimed charges;
    2) if you're an existing customer, they might be more willing to settle to keep your business.

    Which company is it? I doubt you'd need to submit a court claim to be honest, for a small amount they will probably just pay up.

  • Thank you.

    That's a good idea - I'll wait until I've either got the card or been refused before I ask for the refund.

    It's capital one - their 0% is until next year so it would save a lot in interest.

    The credit card company can decline you for whatever reason they choose.

    If you can get 0%, I would forget about the £20 they charged you years ago.
    Let's say you got £4k limit and then you reclaim the £20, they could easily say "Okay, here's your £20, now give our £4k back within 28 days".
    Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

    I'll hold off claiming back the charge and apply for the card and see what happens.
