Applying for jobs online

I'm currently job seeking and have found a few positions online which I want to apply to.
It states that application forms can be sent via email once completed, however, I'm unsure if I should be also attach a cover letter even though they dont request one.
In the past when applying I have included one, but now I'm thinking if the time and effort in doing one for each position is worth it if they're only going to be ignored.

Could anyone offer any advice?

thanks in advance!

I just treat it as if I was applying externally - the only difference being that you save the postage.

Thats actually a good point actually, think I will keep doing the cover letters, might make me stand out a little from those that dont.
