Black Tie - is it acceptable

Hi there

We are going to buy black Tuxedo's for our wedding, is this ok?

They will be worn in the day time through to night (we are marrying at a pretty registry office), the Groom isn't comfortable in the morning suit and I want him to feel comfortable.

We are thinking ties, not bow ties so they don't appear to be waiters.

I know its our wedding and we can do as I please, but I guess I wonder about etiquette. How can we make it seem our own?

Any tips greatly appreciated.

:)

So are you saying you would like the men in black suits?

Personally to me part of the tux is the white winged collar and bow tie..so by substituting the bow tie for a tie its basically a black suit....you may need to substitute the winged collar for a tie collar..

I think from your point on etiquette then they are traditionally worn more in the evening rather than daytime...but as you say it really is your day and his to feel comfortable in what you wear...so if thats what you want then why not....

The only thing I possibly would add for you to think about is how many of the guests or male supporters would you want to wear suits...if its quite a few then bear in mind that they will probably need to go to the expense of hiring as its not something every man has in their wardrode.

Which part of the morning suit is the groom uncomfortable with....if its the tails then you can get a version without the tails and top hat...have a look at louge suits too

Personally I'd either do some kind of morning suit, or a "regular" suit - a tux in the day just seems a little odd to me.

Did he try all the different kinds of morning suit? One of my friends didn't like traditional tails, so went with frockcoats instead...

Tux's might look OTT all day - why not get normal black suits instead?
Especally if you're buying - a suit will get be easier for the guys to wear again.
  • I admit, my husband wanted a morning suit but I'd have been happier to see him in a normal suit.. They can look very dapper! It doesn't have to be "occasion wear".

Just had a quick google for a tuxedo with a tie... Looks good! :) But to my untrained eye I don't see it being too dis-similar from a well fitting standard suit.

If he's wearing it with a tie rather than a bow tie, I dont ee why not? He's not doing cummerbund and winged collar is he?

My OH said he wasn't keen on the full on formal stuff and he wanted to wear a normal suit and was looking at a medium grey colour. But my dress is silver so he's gone for a black dinner suit with a black textured waistcoat. He'll wear a purple tie and cufflinks. My 2 sons and his son will wear the same
