hiya all
having had a huge clear out this weekend, ive come across my notebooks that i used to save up the tips and jokes from my mags, and lots of useful info bits ie recipes, how to do sections, gardening tips, cooking and household stuff.
Of course im hearing from my darling hubby and dearest daughter - just get rid of it, i was and still a bit of a hoarder with my magazines and they are getting fed up with me oh dear
But over the weekend i madly thought could i really earn some money from all this info? Could there be a way for me start a blog would like to promote the south of italy where family and hubby are from as its a fab place and not too commercialised yet but has lots of beaches and countryside areas for visiting.
Could i do something online as a fun way of recording the snippets ive took from old magazines and help others out but also could i earn something too along the way
am i really off the planet now as my daughter has said that i need my reality chill pill - :rotfl:
or my darling hubby who thinks ive totally lost the plot and should just take all my past notebooks and current mags to the paper skip and be thankful im recycling to save the planet in some small way;)
i just hope there is really a " Method In My Madness " amongst my chatting away too much and thinking out my thoughts
thanks for reading but hey we must not ever forget our dreams for an interesting life:beer:
looking forward to your views
have a fun day
ciao MAZ

Of course there's a way of putting all these kind of things on a blog, but making money from it? It's unlikely. Unless of course your page does get a lot of hits and views and you get a lot of advertising on there, but that would require quite a few views to enable this. But you never know! If you're clued up on how to display your site, you may well get it. My best advice would be to create a WordPress blog and go from there.Competition Stats:

I'm no expert but anything published is automatically copyright to its author/creator - all these snippets, in their current wording, would presumably be classed as published word and be copyright to each author. Copying them word-for-word would be breaking this copyright. Guess there's nothing to stop you rewording it as I don't imagine each hint and tip is really original, but still worth bearing in mind.
Also I would ask how you would make your money - what makes these hints and tips stand out from the others that are all over the net (and magazines, as that's where you've sourced them).
Personally if I need a tip or home remedy, I google "how to get dog sick stain out of carpet" or "how to whiten dull whites" or "how to keep slugs off my veggies" or whatever problem I have - google brings up hundreds of results in a split second, with easy to read previews. You'd need a way to catalogue all these tips in a way that was just as quick and easy, if not better, because otherwise what's to stop people just using google?
Sorry to be a little negative but you need to look at these kind of things.1 -
hello theblessedone and krlyr
thank you so much for your views, yeah had thought of the copyright issue, so wouldnt be able to copy word for word of course
yes as you have both said , its just a little thought at the moment, i guess i thought i would try an investigation and get others views before i went to that skip lol

Why not start your own blog/website and fill it with your snippets? even if you don't make money from it, you are preserving all the information you have gathered and then you can get rid of all the paper. You can sign up for free blog sites so all it would cost you is your time.Hels

hiya Brettson (helen) and very warm welcome to MSE this is a fab site and you will learn lots along the way
that is the idea that im checking out at least start with getting the snippets on with my own style of writing and trying to get the info across in a bit of a unique way too, my friends do call me eccentric, so maybe that;s what ive to be positive about lol
so thank you have to get rid of the paperwork so this might now get me started and worry about getting traffic or revenue later and see how my blog is looked upon first - its all new to me and i have time on my hands so hey why not, i can try and get some links on south calabria in italy on my blog for anyone interested in travelling further south than naples, just my mere ramblings maybe but could get some ideas for revenue building from that
who knows, starting this thread this morning i guess i was just testing the water and my brain processes at the same time and of course keeping the family somewhat amused with my brainstorming ideas,,,
to them and thanks to you guys and gals for pure inspiration :T
laters off to move my stuff away in the shed

krlyr has posted exactly what I was thinking.
Might be fun to start your own blog, but getting people to read it and keep reading it will be the problem. How many bloggers are there out there? Think self discipline, being interesting/humorous/informative, and relegate thoughts of financial profit to the "completely unexpected bonus" pile.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1 -
Go for it! There is always a need for household tips and advice on the internet (Sunday saw me Googling cooking temp conversions...), BUT there are lots of very good tips websites out there already.
As with any blog, be patient, update regularly and try to give it some personality. In time, with good content, visitors will come. When you are up to 300-400 a day, think about monetising the blog.
If this is going to be a project in your spare time, it has got to be worth a go, surely?
