Ok, so that gives you around £20 a week spare. Not a great deal, but enough to service your debts with. I really would advise a call to CCCS or National Debtline as I don't see any possible way for you to clear your debts otherwise. Your debts, when compared to your income, are quite high and i'd guess you've been living beyond your means for a while. Its going to take a long time to pay them off i'm afraid and unfortunately, they won't include the debt to your father.

Have you approached your boss and asked for a payrise? You could try contacting your mortgage company and asking for a payment holiday, which would give money to throw at your debts. Is your mobile PAYG or contract?

  • my mobile phone is a contract phone, i am not sure i am in a place to consult with my boss at present as i am only a temporary worker, i have tried to get further training to up my wage but it has fallen on deaf ears.... it's not that i had been outliving my means as such..... i was in a lot higher paid job and got given the sack and then i spent 7months unemployed, which didn't help
  • Hi Mentalminis,

Spoken to your bank yet? (No, then try now!) (Yes, how did it go?)

Ok, Income = £198.51 Expenditure = £179.21. Leaves £19.30 pwer week for any other expenses i.e. CC's, car maintenance.

This isn't a lot really but over the course of a month is £83.63 which should cover your CC's minimum payments.

As you have said yourself you had a better paid job in the past. You therefor need to change your lifestyle to accomodate for the drop in income and this means cutting back your mobile phone usage among other things. I know you are getting better, but you need to cut back even more. Last months mobile was £32 so you can do it and this month you should be aiming to get it down even further. I think you should be aiming at £20 per month tops, in the very near future. That is around £5 per week and would add £30 per month to start paying off your CC's.

Am I being blonde, or would it not take 1 year to pay off your electric arrears. You say you credited by £120 this quarter. It would therefor take 4 quarters not 4 months to pay the arrears off. I think you would be best served trying to keep up these payments.

Have you checked whether you are entitled to any top up benefits? Working tax credits or something. I'm not too clued up in this area but you may well be entitled to something.

    Comeonthetic
  • it's ok comeonthetic it's not you being blonde it's me, your dead right it would take four quarters not four months, oh drats that is a shame, i really wish i'd double check these things before saying them.

unfortunatly the money left over is no where near enough to cover the CC's i have to spend £173.79 on those this month and thats just the minimum payment, car maintaince does not come into the equasion, luckly i am pretty clued up on this side so it only cost me parts, if and when it needs them.

i have tried contacting my local branch but to no avail, the number i have got is for an automated service, i am just about to go on the hunt for another number now
