Which mortgage companies use which credit reference agency?

I have seen the link on MSE that shows which lenders use which credit referene agencies (I'm a newbie so can't post it - sorry) and was wondering if this list applies for mortgages too?

My partner is a FTB and buying alone (sole application). We have a joint account for bills.
Last year my partner who was buying a house alone was turned down for a mortgage with Co-Op as I have an old default on my account linking back to 2007. I am now paying this back slowly.
However the default is only shown on my Equifax credit history - not Experian.

Since this I have applied for and successfully secured a bank account, loan and credit card with Santander as they report to Experian only - which according to the above mentioned link is who they use.

My partner is now looking to buy again. He has successfully secured an Application in Principle from Santander. He is a mortgage broker on
Tuesday - what is your opinion on Santander accepting the full application given the above??

Sorry if this seems long winded!!

Why was your partner declined for a mortgage if you weren't named on the application?
  • Hi Thrugelmir,

We were told it was because I had a default from 2007 - this looked bad on him as we are linked financially by our joint account.

The default I am paying back is with Halifax btw.

Does it seem unusual to you that he was turned down because of something in my name (which he has nothing to do with?) when it a sole applicant?
    Thanks.
  • It might also be worth noting that the first mortgage which was declined as mentioned was for 90% as so is the new mortgage.

I believe santander do a full credit check for an AIP, as oppossed to a Public Record check (which doesn't leave a "footprint" i.e record of search with the CRAs).

So if he has secured an AIP with Santander, I would hazzard a guess that you should be ok upon submission of a full app.
