Selling Books by Weight?

Hi all

I was reading about selling clothes by weight on here and saw someone mention selling books by weight, but didn't manage to find any companies / websites mentioned.

I'm in South East London. Google'ing didn't come up with anything... What companies are there?

I have a load of old text books, which would be near impossible to sell on eBay / Amazon. Would they take those?

You're talking 5p a kilo, so you'd need 100 kilos just to make £5.

A standard chart paperback weighs approx 325 grammes so you would need more than 3 per kilo to get your 5p. Probably best to charity shop them.

Have you tried selling them on play? I have sold books and dvds on there. If you search for the book it will tell you how much it will be and you can work out your price from there. You will have to factor in your postage as all their items are free postage but I once made £20 pure profit selling a dvd that was £27 to buy brand new and mine was in mint condition! They sell textbooks as well so it may be worth your while having a look on there. Good luck!

Are you sure your textbooks wouldn't sell? I've sold some out of date (not just old) specialist text books on Amazon that were pretty tatty. Someone wanted them. It doesn't cost to put them on Amazon and unlike Ebay is a really simple process.

Otherwise charity shops. I have to say though that I did some work for a professor who was convinced everyone would want copies of the books he used with his students and research work- I ended up recycling or just binning lots of them.
