Every week, Asda stock control isn't really under control - tactic for higher spend?

I live in a city, the local Asda is a large out of town one. Every other week we shop at an even bigger Asda the other side of town, too.
Every week we go there, I'm finding that more and more Smartpice/cheap items are "temporarily out of stock" - but we're talking for weeks and weeks at a time!
Is this a tactic by the supermarkets to get people to choose alternatives, or is it just something that's happening because more people are reducing their brand levels? Because the problem is that, for us, we can't really afford to jump up a brand level, we just have to go without
This week:
4th week in a row I couldn't buy smartprice sardines in a tin (any kind). i have these most days for lunch because it's cheap, healthy, and i love them. tins of smartprice tuna (45p) not in stock either. this week, i see they've got rid of the area where you used to be able to get half a tin of asda brand salmon - they're just not stocking it any more, after being an empty shelf for weeks.
3rd week in a row i've been unable to buy smartprice oats.
No smartprice natural yogurt (the cheap kind in a large tub).
Roughly 2 weeks out of 3 they don't have the large bottles of 17p sparkling water (used to wean someone in the house off of a fizzy drink addiction, working very well when we can buy the damn water)
Honestly - living in a city you'd have thought that basic stuff like tinned fish, oats, yoghurt and water is easy enough to stock and be available to buy most weeks. But that isn't the case.
I don't know if I just live next to a spectacularly crap Asda..? - or is anyone else finding this too?

Have you contacted asda and asked them why so many smart price lines are OOS, i dont really shop in asda so cant say if its happening here.0

Yes, the first few times i couldn't get e.g. the sparkling water for a few weeks, I queued at the CS desk, and they confirmed that the store hadn't sold any in the last 4 weeks - so she took my name and telephone number and she said she'd flag it on the systems and let me know when the problem was resolved. no one ever called.
then when i couldn't get sardines or tuna for a couple of weeks, i again queued at the CS desk, went through the same process, again no call but the next week the problem was fixed.
i'm not sure if contacting Asda through other means than the CS desk would prove fruitful... i've submitted their online form just now in hope their stock control problems are fixed: http://your.asda.com/section-contact-asda I'm not sure if it'll do much good though!0 -

ive not had an issue with asda but with 1 of they're competitors they have given an answer when ive asked questions.
Have you had a reply from the online form.0 -
yes but it's an automated reply, they say they'll respond within 2 or 3 days to my query.
iwonder if they actually will have an answer. i'm hoping it's just a local stock control issue that they can fix.. who knows though!0 -
I emailed asking about this, specifically panty liners and something else. Someone rang and said yes theres a facing in the store, and they have stock in
(After apparently speaking to the store manager) i went just after the call, alas there were no facings or stock to speak of.0 -
you might find that they are clearing out the cheaper stuff, so they will have more room on the shelves for the premium priced stuff for christmas..
it happens nearly every year around this time....Work to live= not live to work0
