Standing Order `Rejected by the Recpient

Hi I'm wondering if any one can help me.

I have been paying A computer off which I purchased from my local hospital when i used to work there. I have been paying it off at £20 per month and that has not been a problem. Today I recieved a letter from them stating they had not received any money from me from the 25 th of July. And were demanding full payment of £288 by 14 days or else they will be passing this on to a debt collection agency.

When looked at my bank account I have noticed that the money has been going out as agreed but about 4 days later it has been returned stating that it has been rejected. When I contacted my bank about this they said that the recipient has been rejecting it. There has never been a question of the money not being in my account and and I have no idea why they are rejecting and now demanding full payment.

Can any one please advice to to what my rights are?

  • How many payments have been returned? Just the July one or all of them?

If all of them, then it may be that the wrong sort code / account number has been entered when it's been set up.

If just the July one, then they must've changed their bank account details and should've told you about this and this would give you a strong case for asking for the payments to be reinstated as they were before.

Call the hospital and explain and ask them, best way really.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • hi thanks for your replies, i have been paying it for the past two years, never missed a payment, so much so i never really checked properly a i always had the money in the account

i have had no problems up till now
  • If the payments have always gone through then they must've changed their bank account details - and should've informed you of this.

Phone them on Monday and ask why you've not been notified of the change - with any luck, they'll reinstate your monthly payments (as long as none have been missed before now?).

I would say WRITE to them and keep a copy. Explain what has happened, send all the payments missed so far as a cheque and ask for their explanation as to why the Standing order was rejected.
