PPI, Lloyds TSB, and a cancelled Belmont Thornton...

Hi guys, I hope someone can offer me some advice here
Basically, earlier this year I sent off one of those leaflets from Belmont Thornton, to see if I could get any PPI back. They replied saying they would look at it, however in the meantime I then read some quite bad reviews of them so decided I wanted to cancel.
I rang them up within the 14 days which they state you have to cancel (admittedly it was on the 13th day, but still within that time), told them I wish to stop my claim, to which they told me I need to email. So I did this, jobs a good 'un, never heard off them again.
I did however hear off my bank a few weeks back saying they owe me some money and do I agree to the way they figure it out (had to read, sign and send it back to the bank if I approved of their figures). I signed, and sent it off, then 2 weeks ago I got a letter stating the figure and that it will be paid into my account very shortly.
But I also got a letter off Belmont Thornton saying I had to get in touch with them within 5 days if I wished to progress my claim and get my money... Ok, so I ignored this one, and just waited to see what happend. Now the money has been paid into my account, Belmont Thornton have again sent a letter out, this time asking for their "share".
What do I do now though? Do they have any rights to this? They did essentially start it off, but I legally cancelled within the 14 days you get and then I never heard a thing off them until the bank has been in touch. Do I tell them to get stuffed? Do I have to pay them? Help!

If they have acted in the light of cancellation I would send them a copy of the e-mail, remind them that they asked you to send it as an e-mail and ask that they either confirm in writing that the matter is closed or refer it to their complaints procedure.0

Well that's the thing, I think they acted at the beginning, but then once I cancelled they didn't do anything. They didn't have to - the bank done all the work and was in touch with me all the time, and I signed what was needed. But obviously the bank has sent them details too, not knowing they were no longer in the equation. It feels like to me they're just trying it on to get some money. Obviously, it looks greedy of me to try and refuse them now, but I cancelled their involvement within the allocated time frame so why should they now get anything?0

Something similar happened to me with Brunel Franklin. They sent me the pack which I filled in. They then sent me a letter back saying they didn't think I had a case so didn't want to go any further, and advised me I should try on my own.
Lloyds contacted me about 6 months later saying they were paying back my ppi. (Which incidently I'm STILL waiting for since August) .
low and behold a bill from Brunel came the next day. Luckily I'd kept the letter saying they didn't want to take the case on. I photocopied it and sent it to them saying not chance are you having a cut! They subsequently cancelled the invoice.0 -
Cheeky gits lol
The only problem I can forsee is that I don't seem to have any record of them responding to say it was all cancelled. I have my email I sent to them, but nothing else. I don't recall getting anything from them to be perfectly honest, but I couldn't say 100% that I didn't (although I am 95% sure I didn't, there's that little naging doubt. But I wouldn't have deleted it if I did...).0 -
I guess you have a sent version of the email, so that should be within the 14 day period of when you can change your mind, hopefully you should be ok ad it'll be dated 1 day before. They'll have a copy if your signed firm so they can't mess with that date. Fingers crossed it'll work!0

Ive got kind of the same problem too, check out my thread x0

So if you can cancelled Belmont Thornton, did you contact Lloyds TSB and withdraw the complaint they made on your behalf and make a complaint on your own, or revoke their authority or did you accept the offer that Belmont Thornton managed to get for you?0

Apologies for the late reply, I've been away for work, so thanks for the help so far also.
I did not contact Lloyds no, as I did not know I would have to having cancelled with Belmont Thorton. After a few months I then heard off Lloyds and they were proceeding with things, I just let it run. I had completely forgot about it all to be honest seeing as I had cancelled the original claim. Surely if Belmont Thornton receive a cancellation they should cancel everything so this kind of situation doesn't occur?
So, shall I contact BT and tell them to !!!!!! off because I cancelled, pay up without question, or ignore it all?
