I Thought I'd Be More Excited.....

I have to tell someone. Nobody but CCCS knows that I have been paying off credit card debts for just over 6 years which was preceded by a horrible period of denial, not able to open letters or answer the phone etc. Then there was the defaults on my payments before I fully got with the programme and realised that only I could sort this out. I am a single parent so I just was too ashamed to share. Well, today I went to the Post Office and made my final payment of £251.17 which meant I was cleared in October instead of next January. But I feel so flat about it. I thought I'd be really chuffed. Maybe it will sink in later that I am no longer carrying this weight around on my own. Maybe I was successful in putting the debt in a different compartment of my life and not letting it stop me with things like getting into full time work from benefit and being a good mum. I owe an immense debt of gratitude to CCCS for protecting me from debtors who were horrible to deal with. Even when I rang them last week to confirm balances and request statements for a final payment, Barclaycard were rude and aggressive and guess what! Not a single bit of paperwork has arrived yet. It's like they didn't want me to pay them off!! Anyway, I wish all of you at the start of the journey the best of luck and don't worry if you trip as long as you start again.:D

I had similar trouble with barclay card. They owed me money and it took off half my balance, when I phoned them that were very rude and pointed out that I still had to make a payment as the refund didn't count as a payment. They also canceled the card without telling me. I paid it off as soon as I could and wouldn't use them again.
As for paying off your debts, you SHOULD be really proud of yourself. Well Done! Now you can get on with saving and treating yourself to nice things!

Congratualtions:j
I think when you've been plugging away at something for a long while when it finished you do feel a bit flat for a few days.
It's like someone has removed your main focus and you don't know what to do now.
After a few days, I'm sure it'll sink in and you'll have a smile like this

Well done
The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
Well done.
Perhaps it will sink in next month when you have an extra few hundred sitting in the bank? Or maybe treat yourself to something to celebrate and reward yourself for the hard work and for getting through it (not something big but just something that you had cut out whilst you've been debt busting - even something such as a takeaway or a nice bottle of wine or a new haircut). Someone posted not long ago that they were going to celebrate by buying branded baked beans instead of value!!

As Tixy says, it's next month when it will hit you. No payment to make, no debt, just the rest of your life ahead of you.
Nice one, well done.

I just wanted to say well done.
Perhaps the money that you were using to pay off your debts can go into your christmas fund or maybe even your holiday fund so that you have something nice to look forward to that is not paid for with a loan or credit.
It would be lovely to look forward to something niceI need to make a new list for 2014
think of something to put on it!:rotfl:
Try harder for 2014 as I never managed it in 2012 or 20130 -
Well done on getting through this. You need to congratulate yourself .0

Wow you have done brilliantly! And you really need to pat yourself on the back for a huge achievement.
I think it's a bit like revising for an exam (although a lot more stressful), you spend a lot of your time looking forward to that time when it's all over and ultimately it's a bit of an anticlimax.
I am only just starting out on my journey, so I am inspired by what you have done :T:T:TMake £10 a day: £48.76/£1500
