Hi all
I am just wondering if any of you knowledgable veggie cooks can help me as I don't really know the basics!!
I have made chilli with soya mince which seems to have gone well.
Can I just freeze it in containers like I would with normal mince?
Also if freezing is possible would I need to defrost it first then cook it or could I just microwave it or stick it in the pan from frozen.
Thanks in advance for any help - i'm trying to educate myself on cooking as I go along. :rotfl:

Hi catlou
I am a veggie and DH is not, often he can't tell the difference between soya mince and mince beef!
Yes you can freeze it the same as if it were meat, I take mine out of the freezer in the morning pop it into the fridge and it has thawed by time I am home. You can warm it in the mircowave or pop in in the frying pan, whichever you pref is. I micro, it's quicker.
Never done it straight from frozen, might get a bit dry if cooked too long? but I'm sure someone here will know?
Hope this helps)

Vegi here too, yes you can freeze soya mince and cook from frozen. I use soya mince when I make lasagne and I usually make extra nd freeze it so I can use it another time. Try putting other spices with the soya or make it into shepheds pie its deliciousCompetitions wins 2010

yep freezeing is fine, defrost before you cook. make mince go further by adding some green lentils, my oh insists he hates lentils, but hasnt realised hes been eating them for the past 6 years in his mince!0

Thank you everyone for your help!
I have now frozen some!!
I'm also wondering what type do most people reccomend I used the Holland and Barratt unflavoured are the flavoured ones usually tastier?
Any advice greatfully received.
Cheers

I use the tesco veggie mince in the frozen section (Asda and Sainsbury both do one too). Never used the dried stuff I'm afraid. I usually reheat any batches of bolognaise etc up from frozen in the microwave.
Forgot to say that this type of mince already has some flavourings such as herbs and onion powder in, but I always add dried herbs to my bolognaise anyway. My OH is also a meat eater, but he seems to enjoy the veggie mince still. He prefers the texture of this mince, as the Quorn version doesn't have such thick clusters.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -
We use the dried Soya Mince from Sainsbury's @ 57p a pack. It is unflavored, we use marmite or stock cubes. We much prefer it to the other soya stuff.0
