Emigrating while on DMP

Hoping someone can help here, I've searched various threads re emigration but not found exactly the right situation.
We have been on a DMP with CCCS for nearly 2 years, paying off an horrendous £100k cc collection at £600 per month without any hiccups. So far so good.
Now however we are about to emigrate due to OH's job going down the pan. Can't afford to wait for that to happen, and had a much better offer Down Under. I can get work similar to UK too. Visas are through (no credit checking BTW!) and flights are booked.
We are NOT leaving to avoid our debts! We have no problem in continuing to feed our UK bank account to pay the DD, a lot of the correspondence is now done online anyway and we're not selling the house in the present market. If anything we should be in a better position to pay our way out of debt. My one concern is disturbing the status quo. Clearly I should update the CCCS, but if I do will they then be obliged to share this with the creditors, which will stir the whole thing up again?
If we are forced to sell the house at a knock-down price the cc companies will not get paid in full anyway, as there will not be enough left once the mortgage has been repaid. As things are we can retain the house as an asset, rent it out to cover its running costs and continue to reduce our debt mountain as at present.
I am going round in circles over this. I want to leave it on a sound footing, and I would like to ring CCCS and discuss it but fear that if I do I will have revealed my hand and will lose control of the situation.
Any CCCS advisors out there who can help, or anyone else managed to handle this problem?

  • Hi there, why don't you just administer your dmp yourself? I do & I only used the cccs informally for advice & there's no reason why you can't as well. Also, people move abroad with dmps - there's no shame in that. Give them a call (or you could call Paypal & see how they'd deal with the situation to get an idea how cccs might treat your situation). Overall - don't stress! Hth, SF
  • Thanks for that.
We have been happy to let CCCS do the DMP, due to the large balances several cc companies have tried to bully us into paying them first etc. and CCCS have been good at dealing with that. Presumably if we took over running the DMP we would have to start over and do all the negotiations ourselves.
May have to go for it and just call them.
